Spirulina

I have received many questions  on why I am taking 1 teaspoon of spirulina every day.
So I decided to write a little about Spirulina and explain why I am taking it.

What is Spirulina ?
Spirulina is an algae (cyanobacteria) that is high in protein (65% protein) and contains all essential amino acids and is extremely high in Chlorophyll, iron and in vitamin B12. Spirulina also contains many vitamins such as : vitamin B1 , B2, B3, B6, B9, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A and vitamin E. It is also a source of minerals  such as  potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium,  manganese, phosphorus,  selenium, sodium and zinc.

Benefits:
It´s used to detoxify organs, helps burning fat during exercise, has anti aging properties, reduces the cholesterol, stimulates and strengthens the immune system.

All this sounds great, right ?
The taste is so horrible. It tastes like concentrated molded seaweed mixed with rotten yeast.

But why am I taking Spirulina then?
I am taking Spirulina as its extremely high in Chlorophyll and Chlorophyll has been proven to get rid of sugar cravings. My sugar addictions is really bothering and the moment. And by sugar I mean REAL sugar, and that sugar craving can not be satisfied by agave, stevia nor honey.
And even though I am struggling to get the Spirulina down, it´s working on me!

My best advice to hide spirulina taste:
Chocolate and nut spirulina cake with coconut cream, wild berries and cacao nibs:
1 big single serving :
Base: 1 dl mixed nuts, 1/2 dl shredded coconut, 15 drops stevia, 1 big tbsp cacao, 1tsp spirulina
Filling: coconut cream (thick part of a can of full fat coconut kept in the fridge over night) mixed with a few drops stevia and a few tbsp shredded coconut
Topping: wild berries and raw cacao nibs
1. Mix all the ingredients for the base in a food processor until it gets a nut butter consistency.
2. Squish inside a single serving cake tin
3. Add the filling on top
4. Garnish with berries and raw cacao nibs. The more berries you use, the better.

Coconut, Raspberry and Spirulina smoothie
2 dl raspberries
1 dl coconut water
1 tsp spirulina
1 tsp agave (optional)
A few ice cubes (optional)
1. Mix everything in a food processor and serve
